Biju Menon rocked the show. His dialogue delivery and fun character is extremely superb. Once again Biju Menon proved that he is an inevitable talent in Malayalam cinema. Kunchacko and Prathap Pothan did a neat and descent performance. The first half of the movie is with full fun and entertainment. The second half is a bit lagging with some twists. Red Wine

Direction  :  Salam Bappu
Writer      :  Mammen K Rajan
Starring    :  Mohanlal, Fahad Fazil, Asif Ali

At that the time to taste the seductive Red Wine has arrived. The movie mainly focuses on the life of Anoop (Fahad) and Ramesh (Asif) even though Mohanlal's caharcter (Rateesh Vasuden) is in the movie throughout.   A political investigation thriller set out in the backdrops of Wayanad is what Red Wine offers you.

A charismatic and classy performance of Mohanlal is seen in the movie. Even though his character is not pretty focused in the movie, his did a notable performance. Fahad Fazil is the heart of the movie. This young lad has been surprising the audience from the past 2-3 years and it's really a prestige to say that his acting skills are getting better and better after every  movie. Asif Ali did a good performance compared to his previous movies. The direction of the movie is good. The script is a also good; but lags at times.

In short Red Wine is a watchable movie for some notable performances. And moreover when a legend join hands with 2 notable young stars, there is something that you are looking for.

Ith Pathiramanal

Direction  :  M.Pathmakumar
Writer      :  Babu Janardhanan
Starring    :  Unni Mukundan, Jayasurya, Ramya Nambeesan

The movie tells the story of a a private financier Johnykutty (Jayasurya), who lives with his wife Ambika (Shalu Menon), and son Eldho (Unni Mukundan). Due to some reasons Johnykutty's finance company went broken and he left the place in order to protect himself and came back after sometime. Meanwhile Ambika was raped by a police officer Chevaliar (Pradeep Rawat). Jayasurya got killed by Chevaliar and the story develops like this.

Ith Pathiramanal is a revenge story with no essence at all. The story plot of the movie itself resembles to a lot of old Malayalam movies. A mixture of revenge, violence, romance etc. made the movie a non-logic one. Unni Mukundan's performance was not up to the mark. No expressions were seen in his face. Ramya Nambeesan did a good job. Even though Jayasurya's character was not in the movie throughout, he did a notable performance. The script by Babu Janardhanan was really boring and too shabby. Pathmakumar's direction was also not very impressive.

In short Ith Pathiramanal comes under the list of Malayalam movies which questioned the patience of audience to it's peak.

Lucky star is a clean family entertainer. Jayaram performed well and this film is definitely his comeback. Rachana has made a fabulous entry into big screen and she proved that she is highly talented. Mukesh also performed well. The first half of the movie is filled with fun and humor. As the movie moves towards the second half, the movies becomes a bit slow and is mainly concentrated on sentiment and family matters. The direction of the movie is good.

Jayasurya is good as David and performed well. Anoop Menon also performed well. P.Balachandran also played a notable performance and needs appreciation for it. Lena is also good. Other lady characters dosen't have nothing much to perform. Anoop Menon's script and it's theme is good. But it's a bit slow  and boring. Rajeevnath's direction is also good.

Cowboy

Direction   :  P. Balachandrakumar
Writer       :  P. Balachandrakumar
Starring     :  Asif Ali, Bala, Mythili

The film has Asif Ali playing Vinay, who is despised by his father for being the irresponsible son that he thinks Vinay has evolved into. Vinay runs a pub in Kuala Lampur, and is entrusted the task of delivering his nephew to the airport, where the boy would be picked up by his sister. Enroute to the airport however, Vinay meets Xavier (Bala) who has other plans for the youngster in mind. What happens next forms the crux of the movie.

The movie came with a label as one of the most expensive movies ever made in Malayalm. But those who have watched the film will definitely understand there is nothing like that. The movie has nothing to offer you. The movie is very slow and boring. Direction and script of the movie is utter waste. Asif Ali should be very careful in choosing his characters as the action roles never suites him. Bala showed some sincerity to his character, but still he have to improve a lot. Kushboo, and Mythili wasn't having anything to perform.

Cowboy is just another movie from Malayalam which fooled the audience. It's time for Asif Ali to think serioulsy about his carrier and the type of movies he choose.

Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla

Direction    :  V.K. Prakash
Writer        :  Shankar Ramakrishnan
Starring      :  Fahad Fazil, Kamilani Mukherjee, Rima Kallingal

Natholi cheriyoru mennalla is a triangular love story mixed with some comic situations.Basically the movie discuss the conflict between a writer and the character he creates.Fahad is playing dual roles preman, representing a person living in urban area and Narendran representing a villager.About Preman he is care taker of an apartment at cochin and every one in that apartment calls him as “Natholi” there he meets the two girls kamalini mukherjee and Reema kallingal residing in the same apartment and the later part of the movie deals with the involvement of this ladies in his life.

Fahad Fazil played both his roles well and his expressions were really superb. Once again he proved that he has the potential to handle any type of roles. Kamilani Mukherjee also did a wonderful and impressive performance. But Rima Kallingal's performance was not up to the mark and it was very disappointing. The direction of the movie was good but the script ruined the movie. Even though the theme of the movie was good, Shankar Ramakrishnan failed to make it impressive by his script.

When a good director like V.K.Prakash joins hands with talented writer Shankar Ramakrishnan and the talented actors like Fahad, Kamilani, and Rima, the expectations were at peak level. But the movie totally disappointed the audience.

Kadal

Direction    :  Mani Ratnam
Writers      :  Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan
Starring     :  Goutham Karthik, Thulasi Nair, Arjun, Arvind Swamy

Kadal is all bout good vs bad and the central characters are essayed by Aravind Swamy and Arjun. In fact the two prominent stars got more screen-time and importance than the debutant actors, where the love story is interwoven between these two prominent characters Sam and Bergman in the backdrop of sea.

The initial hour of the movie is excellent and the Thomas characterization as the innocent child was heart-wrenching, but as the story progresses Mani has shown the struggle between the good and bad. The story moves at a very slow pace and it’s only in the second half the love story takes off. Arvind Swamy has tried to pull off the film in the first half but the characterization lacks the needed depth and it isn't convincing enough. This is definitely Aravind Swamy's comeback and his character was safe at his hands. Goutham Karthika did a splendid performance. Arjun's performance was also superb. While the narration holds your interest at times, the slow pace and the sloped screenplay frequently tests your patience.

Kadal lack's Mani Ratnam's magical touch. He failed to impress the audience this time also.

David

Direction     :  Bejoy Nambiar
Writers        :  Bejoy Nambiar, Natasha Sahgal
Starring       :  Vikram, Jiva, Tabu, Lara Dutta

A good tale, the film is a concoction of two stories and each one has one David. In 1999 David (jiiva) hails from a family of pious Christians and he loves music. But his orthodox father (nasser) is not comfortable with all that. His life is peaceful when a political issue gets his entire family into trouble. In 2010 comes one more David (vikram) a drunkard fisherman who falls in love with Roma (isha) but the problem is she is engaged to his best friend Peter. What happens in each tale forms the rest of the story.

Vikram was fabulous and showed his mettle, Jiiva was impressive and scored points with ease. Tabu was impressive as usual, Lara was brief, Rohini Hattangadi was neat, Nasser was natural. The others did their bit as required and added value.

The director has come up with a very interesting storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was good in parts.  The dialogues were alright. The script was average and the screenplay lost track after a while. The background score was good and two songs were good to hear. Cinematography was fantastic.  Editing should have been sharp. Costumes were trendy and appealing while the art department was apt.

Lokpal

Direction    :  Joishy
Writer        :  S.N. Swami
Starring      :  Mohanlal, Kavya Madhavan

After the grand success of run baby run jioshy Mohanlal team joins again. The hype of the movie was at its peak due to this winning pair.

Mohanlal plays the role of a thief called Lokpal who fights against corruption according to the complaints he gets from his website "Lokpal". In short one man's fight against corruption and black money. This is the theme of the story.

Mohanlal did his part well, but there wasn't much for him to perform. And moreover some looks used for him in the movie were not suitable for him. The viewers witnessed the worst performance of Kavya Madhavan ever.  The main drawback of the movie was definitely the script and screenplay by S.N. Swami. He used the same script which was used many times before and the script resembled many movies like 4 The People, Anniyan etc. Another drawback of the movie is the direction. Many still believes that this movie was not directed by Joishy!!!

In short Lokpal disappoints the viewers to it's core.

Viswaroopam

Direction   :  Kamal Hassan
Writer       :  Kamal Hassan
Starring     :  Kamal Hassan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah

Viswanath is a Kathak dancer and a dance teacher. Due to some personal issues with Viswanath, his wife Nirupama falls in love with her company boss Deepak. In order to create a strong reason to end the relationship between Viswanath, Nirupama sends a detective to follow him to find whether he is interacting with any other girls.  While following Viswanath, the detective finds out something suspicious about him and the story develops in to a new level.

This is definitely Kamal Hassan's Vswaroopam. Kamal as usual lived literally in all the 3 roles: Dancer, terrorist & Indian agent. Once again he proved that he is the best. You will also witness Kamal as a brilliant filmmaker. His direction and script is outstanding. . An Indian movie delivered in Hollywood standard. Pooja Kumar's acting is quite impressive especially the dubbing given to her is so perfect. Andrea did her part well. Rahul Bose played the villain character extremely well. The cinematography is also mind blowing.

B & C center audience will feel bit boring due to a lot of English & Urdu dialogues. A big respect and salute to Kamal for taking such an effort and pain in delivering a masterpiece. This is just the beginning, movie is still to be continued in part II.

Kammath And Kammath

Starring     :  Mammootty, Dileep, Rima Kallingal, Karthika Nair

At last the wait is over for Kammath brothers. Megastar Mammootty and Janapriya Nayakan Dileep starring Kammath And Kammath is out.

Kammath brothers came to Palakkad to buy a hotel which was closed due to unhygienic conditions. They bought  the hotel and reopened it. Following this they had to face several consequences from a hotel owner Sahib who was running a hotel just opposite to their hotel. The story develops like this.

The chemistry between Kammath brothers (Mammootty & Dileep) worked out well. The slang they used were funny and interesting. Both Mammooty and Dileep did perform well and entertained the viewers. Baburaj was another highlight of the movie. He was simply superb and his comedy timings and dialogues were perfect. Rima Kallingal did her job well and Karthika Nair was very attractive in the movie.

The direction of the movie was good and Thomson succeeded in delivering a mass movie to satisfy both Mammootty and Dileep fans. There is nothing much to talk about the script as every one is familiar with Udayakrishna - Sibi K Thomas scripts. The first half of the movie was entertaining and fast. But he second half was a little bit dragging.

In short Kammath And Kammath is a "Mass Masala Movie" which can be watched once for the beautiful chemistry of Mammootty and Dileep. It has all the essential elements to attract family audiences who are looking for a fun film.

Ranveer lands up in Turkey where the Indian Mafia is run by Armaan Malik (John Abraham) and his lover Elena (Deepika Padukone). Armaan has his own Revenge Story to tell.

It’s just a pompous wannabe-thriller that is devoid of any logic. It’s a race, we are told, on numerous occasions, by the two leading heroes and their two gorgeous sidekicks, almost trying to justify why they’ve taken two-hours-and-thirty-minutes of our lives. Yet, there’s never a real sense of what they are racing for. Time, money, babes, or cars? While its predecessor, the original ‘Race’, had shown some promise and glimpse of a good plot, ‘Race2’ steers away from any such attempts, and instead focuses on good looks and charm. On the whole, this is just a lazy sequel of Race

Alex Pandian

Alex Pandian is definitely the much hyped movie in Karthi's carrier. The movie is written and directed by Suraj whose previous films were Maruthamalai, Padikathavan, and Mappilai.

Alex Pandian (Karthi) kidnaps CM's daughter (Anushka) for money. Meanwhile they falls in love with each other. Alex Pandian takes the responsibility to save her from a group of people who are against her father and the state.

Alex Pandian is made for Karthi fans. The director utilized Karthi fully to satisfy his fans and succeeded in making a masala entertainer to a certain extent. Karthi is the soul of the movie. Santhanam was superb as usual. His comedies were outstanding and he had a great chemistry with Karthi. Anushka Shetty also did her part well. Although movie had all the essential elements for a masala entertainer, the audience were not satisfied with it. Alex Pandian is just a repetition of director Suraj's old flicks; only masala and no logic. If he had taken a little care in the script, the movie could have been made better.

Renjini's acting was too boring and the audience felt like watching another episode of Idea Star Singer. It's better for her to continue with anchoring. The scripting and direction was very bad. Lisammayude Veedu

Direction   :  Babu Janardhanan
Writer       :  Babu Janardhanan
Starring     :  Salim Kumar, Meera Jasmine, Rahul Madhav

Meera Jasmine is back to Malayalam after a long gap. This movie is directed by script writer Babu Janardhanan whose first directional venture was Mammootty starring Bombay March 12.

The movie tells the story of a serial rape victim Lisamma (Meera Jasmine). After a long struggle she is now leading a normal life. She has a small mobile recharge shop in the town. Trade union leader Sivan (Rahul Madhav) falls in love with Lisamma and they plan to get married. After their marriage some unexpected things happens in their life and everything turns upside down. The movie develops like this.

Meera Jasmine and Salim Kumar are the soul of the movie. Their performance is mind blowing and really appreciable. Rahul Madhav also did his part well. Babu Ganardhanan succeed in saying a story which has a lot of social values. But his direction was not upto the mark. The first half of the movie is good. But when it moved to the second half the movie became very slow and predictable.

Writer       :  Bhaskar
Starring     :  Ram Charan, Genelia

Love is forever is an absurd thought, believes Ram (Ram Charan), a graffiti artist in Sydney. So he keeps falling with girls and parts ways with them. Quite contrast to his ideology, Jaanu (Genelia) believes in the idea of love and is on the quest for 'right guy' to live for life. Ram meets Jaanu, keeps persuading her to fall in love with him. She falls for his charms but when she learns that he can't love her forever, she gets jolt. Does love fade with the time or it is eternal? They argue on this for rest of the story.

Ramcharan did a descent job and he looks stylish in trendy costumes. Genelia looks too old and her excessive 'make-up' and over the board performance actually makes us no connection with her character. Direction of the movie is not bad. The script and scenes are written by the director is so silly that all the characters in the movie behave as if they don't do anything in life but bickering constantly. The Malayalam dubbing of the movie has some problems.

Youth audiences may like certain scenes and music but the movie on the whole doesn't appeal. Content wise, it is big let down.

The movie is a complete entertainer. Sunny Wane's performance is awesome. The most surprising element of the movie is definitely the climax; a  really unexpected  twist and surprising climax!! Even though  this movie is the first attempt by director Gireesh, he did a great job. Annayum Rasoolum

Direction   : Rajeev Ravi
Writer       : Santhosh Echikkanam
Starring    :  Fahadh Fasil, Andrea Jeremiah, Sunny Wayne

Aannayum Rasoolum is Fahad Fazil's first release of 2013. Another specialty of the movie is that five Malayalam film directors; Ranjith, P. Balachandran, Ashiq Abu, Joy Mathew and M.G. Sasi, are acting in the film.

As the name suggests the movie tells the love story of Anna and Rasool.  As the movie develops, it deals with problems they face as they are from different religions. A simple love story and nothing else.

Fahad and Andrea did a great job and everyone enjoyed their chemistry well. The rest of the cast also did a descent job. The direction was good. The first half of the movie was entertaining. But when it moved to the second half, the grip of the story was lost and it was very lagging. Writer Santhosh could have taken more care in preparing the screenplay. Another drawback of the film was it's length. The duration of the film was about 3 hours.

In short Annayum Rasoolum is just an average movie and it disappoints a lot.

He lures them to play a game called table no 21. The game is simple. Answer eight questions. Each question is followed by a task. complete the tasks and win 21 crores. The one big rule is "if you lie you die". For people who enjoy reality t.v. this film is good fun since follows a similar template. The structure is fairly simple on the surface but there is larger picture running beyond it and every question and task leads the couple towards it.

Tena Desae brings in a freshness in the film. She looks delicious in a bikini and also carries off a bald look too. Rajeev Khandelwal is in the same zone as his first film. Someone new in his place would have been better. Same with Paresh Rawal. We have seen him do these kind of roles before so there is no novelty left to engage with him as an audience. Hanif Hilaal makes a silent debut and looks good enough to be cast as a villain in future films. How good is he? We will know only when we hear him speak. This is the 4th film by director Aditya Datt. After 3 mistakes he finally makes a good impression.
