Lokpal

Direction    :  Joishy
Writer        :  S.N. Swami
Starring      :  Mohanlal, Kavya Madhavan

After the grand success of run baby run jioshy Mohanlal team joins again. The hype of the movie was at its peak due to this winning pair.

Mohanlal plays the role of a thief called Lokpal who fights against corruption according to the complaints he gets from his website "Lokpal". In short one man's fight against corruption and black money. This is the theme of the story.

Mohanlal did his part well, but there wasn't much for him to perform. And moreover some looks used for him in the movie were not suitable for him. The viewers witnessed the worst performance of Kavya Madhavan ever.  The main drawback of the movie was definitely the script and screenplay by S.N. Swami. He used the same script which was used many times before and the script resembled many movies like 4 The People, Anniyan etc. Another drawback of the movie is the direction. Many still believes that this movie was not directed by Joishy!!!

In short Lokpal disappoints the viewers to it's core.

Viswaroopam

Direction   :  Kamal Hassan
Writer       :  Kamal Hassan
Starring     :  Kamal Hassan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah

Viswanath is a Kathak dancer and a dance teacher. Due to some personal issues with Viswanath, his wife Nirupama falls in love with her company boss Deepak. In order to create a strong reason to end the relationship between Viswanath, Nirupama sends a detective to follow him to find whether he is interacting with any other girls.  While following Viswanath, the detective finds out something suspicious about him and the story develops in to a new level.

This is definitely Kamal Hassan's Vswaroopam. Kamal as usual lived literally in all the 3 roles: Dancer, terrorist & Indian agent. Once again he proved that he is the best. You will also witness Kamal as a brilliant filmmaker. His direction and script is outstanding. . An Indian movie delivered in Hollywood standard. Pooja Kumar's acting is quite impressive especially the dubbing given to her is so perfect. Andrea did her part well. Rahul Bose played the villain character extremely well. The cinematography is also mind blowing.

B & C center audience will feel bit boring due to a lot of English & Urdu dialogues. A big respect and salute to Kamal for taking such an effort and pain in delivering a masterpiece. This is just the beginning, movie is still to be continued in part II.

Kammath And Kammath

Direction    :  Thomson
Writers      :  Udayakrishna - Sibi K Thomas
Starring     :  Mammootty, Dileep, Rima Kallingal, Karthika Nair

At last the wait is over for Kammath brothers. Megastar Mammootty and Janapriya Nayakan Dileep starring Kammath And Kammath is out.

Kammath brothers came to Palakkad to buy a hotel which was closed due to unhygienic conditions. They bought  the hotel and reopened it. Following this they had to face several consequences from a hotel owner Sahib who was running a hotel just opposite to their hotel. The story develops like this.

The chemistry between Kammath brothers (Mammootty & Dileep) worked out well. The slang they used were funny and interesting. Both Mammooty and Dileep did perform well and entertained the viewers. Baburaj was another highlight of the movie. He was simply superb and his comedy timings and dialogues were perfect. Rima Kallingal did her job well and Karthika Nair was very attractive in the movie.

The direction of the movie was good and Thomson succeeded in delivering a mass movie to satisfy both Mammootty and Dileep fans. There is nothing much to talk about the script as every one is familiar with Udayakrishna - Sibi K Thomas scripts. The first half of the movie was entertaining and fast. But he second half was a little bit dragging.

In short Kammath And Kammath is a "Mass Masala Movie" which can be watched once for the beautiful chemistry of Mammootty and Dileep. It has all the essential elements to attract family audiences who are looking for a fun film.

Ranveer lands up in Turkey where the Indian Mafia is run by Armaan Malik (John Abraham) and his lover Elena (Deepika Padukone). Armaan has his own Revenge Story to tell.

It’s just a pompous wannabe-thriller that is devoid of any logic. It’s a race, we are told, on numerous occasions, by the two leading heroes and their two gorgeous sidekicks, almost trying to justify why they’ve taken two-hours-and-thirty-minutes of our lives. Yet, there’s never a real sense of what they are racing for. Time, money, babes, or cars? While its predecessor, the original ‘Race’, had shown some promise and glimpse of a good plot, ‘Race2’ steers away from any such attempts, and instead focuses on good looks and charm. On the whole, this is just a lazy sequel of Race

Right from the introductory scene Santhanam and Powerstar score and make us continue to laugh. As this is the first time most people are watching Powerstar on screen , they get excited in whatever he does. Powerstar does everything effortlessly and he entertains the viewers.

The script and direction of the movie was good. Sethu the main lead of the film has done a decent job , Santhanam and Powerstar steal the screen space from him most of the time. All the supporting actors VTV Ganesh,Kovai Sarala, Vishaka  Dhivyadarshini have done a good job.

Samar

Direction    :  Thiru
Writer        :  Thiru
Starring      :  Vishal, Trisha, Sunaina

Vishal has yet again teamed up with director Thiru and this time for Samar which is a high budget film in their career and Trisha has joined them.

While Trisha plays Maya , Sunaina plays Roopa who lives in Ooty, Manoj Bajpai and J D Chakravarthy will appear as baddies in the movie. Samar is richly shot in forest locales of Chalakudy and Thailand. Vishal plays the role of Shakti, a trekker who goes to Bangkok on a personal work but he gets into unique situations and a problem without his knowledge? How will he come out of the tricky situation forms crux.

Vishal is back with a bang. He was desperately wating for a hit and this time he could deliver it. Well scripted and well directed movie. Director/ writer Thiru really needs appreciation for his effort. The movie is very racy and fast with unexpected twists and suspense. The cinematography was also excellent  Vishal, Trisha, and Sunaina did their part well. The villain roles played by JD Chakravathy, and Manoj Bajpai were extremely powerful and super.

The movie was a bit slow at times and also the music by Yuvan Sankar Raja was not very impressive. These are the negative parts of the movie.

In short Samar is a well executed thriller with all commercial elements. Watch and Enjoy.

Mad Dad

Direction   :  Revathy S Varma
Writer       :  Revathy S Varma
Starring     :  Lal, Meghna Raj, Nazariya Nasim, Padmapriya

Easow's (Lal) parents died when he was young. His junior in college Anuradha (Meghna Raj) is his sole solace, and he rechristens her as Annamma and marries her pretty soon. They gave birth to a baby girl Mariyam (Nazariya). But the things changed all of a sudden. Three of them met with an accidnet and Annamma left them forever. Eesho is unable to take it anymore and lives with his daughter, convinced that Annamma is still around.

Lal's performance was not up to the expected level. I many places he was a bit boring. Nazariya's performance was good and appreciable. Meghna Raj and Padmapriya had nothing to perform but Pooja Gandhi did a notable performance. The direction and script of the movie was not up to the level.

Mad Dad has nothing great to offer and failed to impress the viewers.

Alex Pandian

Direction   :  Suraj
Writer       :  Suraj
Starring     :  Karthi, Anushka Shetty, Santhanam

Alex Pandian is definitely the much hyped movie in Karthi's carrier. The movie is written and directed by Suraj whose previous films were Maruthamalai, Padikathavan, and Mappilai.

Alex Pandian (Karthi) kidnaps CM's daughter (Anushka) for money. Meanwhile they falls in love with each other. Alex Pandian takes the responsibility to save her from a group of people who are against her father and the state.

Alex Pandian is made for Karthi fans. The director utilized Karthi fully to satisfy his fans and succeeded in making a masala entertainer to a certain extent. Karthi is the soul of the movie. Santhanam was superb as usual. His comedies were outstanding and he had a great chemistry with Karthi. Anushka Shetty also did her part well. Although movie had all the essential elements for a masala entertainer, the audience were not satisfied with it. Alex Pandian is just a repetition of director Suraj's old flicks; only masala and no logic. If he had taken a little care in the script, the movie could have been made better.

In short Alex Pandian is an all in all masala entertainer made especially for karthi fans with no logic at all.

Entry

Direction    :  Rajesh Amanakara'
Starring      :  Babu Raj, Renjini Haridas, Bhagath Manuel

ACP Shreta (Renjini) and ACP Rishikesh had been married for long. But due to ego clashes they are on the brink of a divorce. During this time Bhagath Manuel and a mystery girl enters the scene and the story develops like this.

Renjini's acting was too boring and the audience felt like watching another episode of Idea Star Singer. It's better for her to continue with anchoring. The scripting and direction was very bad. The scenes in the movie has no connection at all. As the name of the movie suggests, it just paved the way for the "Entry" of Renjini Haridas.

In short Entry is such a waste movie that you should definitely avoid watching. Save your precious time and money.

Lisammayude Veedu

Direction   :  Babu Janardhanan
Writer       :  Babu Janardhanan
Starring     :  Salim Kumar, Meera Jasmine, Rahul Madhav

Meera Jasmine is back to Malayalam after a long gap. This movie is directed by script writer Babu Janardhanan whose first directional venture was Mammootty starring Bombay March 12.

The movie tells the story of a serial rape victim Lisamma (Meera Jasmine). After a long struggle she is now leading a normal life. She has a small mobile recharge shop in the town. Trade union leader Sivan (Rahul Madhav) falls in love with Lisamma and they plan to get married. After their marriage some unexpected things happens in their life and everything turns upside down. The movie develops like this.

Meera Jasmine and Salim Kumar are the soul of the movie. Their performance is mind blowing and really appreciable. Rahul Madhav also did his part well. Babu Ganardhanan succeed in saying a story which has a lot of social values. But his direction was not upto the mark. The first half of the movie is good. But when it moved to the second half the movie became very slow and predictable.

Lisammayude Veedu is a movie with a good social message. If the direction and screenplay in the second half were impressive, the movie could have been much better.

Hai Ramcharan

Direction   :  Bhaskar
Writer       :  Bhaskar
Starring     :  Ram Charan, Genelia

Love is forever is an absurd thought, believes Ram (Ram Charan), a graffiti artist in Sydney. So he keeps falling with girls and parts ways with them. Quite contrast to his ideology, Jaanu (Genelia) believes in the idea of love and is on the quest for 'right guy' to live for life. Ram meets Jaanu, keeps persuading her to fall in love with him. She falls for his charms but when she learns that he can't love her forever, she gets jolt. Does love fade with the time or it is eternal? They argue on this for rest of the story.

Ramcharan did a descent job and he looks stylish in trendy costumes. Genelia looks too old and her excessive 'make-up' and over the board performance actually makes us no connection with her character. Direction of the movie is not bad. The script and scenes are written by the director is so silly that all the characters in the movie behave as if they don't do anything in life but bickering constantly. The Malayalam dubbing of the movie has some problems.

Youth audiences may like certain scenes and music but the movie on the whole doesn't appeal. Content wise, it is big let down.

Nee Ko Njaa Cha

Direction    :  Gireesh
Writer        :  Gireesh
Starring      :  Sunny Wayne, Poojitha Menon, Rohini, Parvathy Nair, Sija Rose

The title of the movie is an acronym of "Ninnem Kollum Njanum Chavum". A friend of Sunny Wane is cheated by his girlfriend. To forget the sorrows they plans a trip to Goa. After reaching Goa they were shocked to see that the girl who cheated Sunny Wane's friend is there with her new boyfriend. As the story develops two more girls gets in to the scene and some unexpected things happen.

The movie is a complete entertainer. Sunny Wane's performance is awesome. The most surprising element of the movie is definitely the climax; a  really unexpected  twist and surprising climax!! Even though  this movie is the first attempt by director Gireesh, he did a great job. And his story and screenplay is also very impressive. There are some lagging in few parts of the movie but it can be neglected.

Nee Ko Njaa Cha is highly entertaining as well as surprising. Go for it without anny hesitations. You will definitely enjoy it.

Verdict   :  Super Entertainer with a never expected climax.

Annayum Rasoolum

Direction   : Rajeev Ravi
Writer       : Santhosh Echikkanam
Starring    :  Fahadh Fasil, Andrea Jeremiah, Sunny Wayne

Aannayum Rasoolum is Fahad Fazil's first release of 2013. Another specialty of the movie is that five Malayalam film directors; Ranjith, P. Balachandran, Ashiq Abu, Joy Mathew and M.G. Sasi, are acting in the film.

As the name suggests the movie tells the love story of Anna and Rasool.  As the movie develops, it deals with problems they face as they are from different religions. A simple love story and nothing else.

Fahad and Andrea did a great job and everyone enjoyed their chemistry well. The rest of the cast also did a descent job. The direction was good. The first half of the movie was entertaining. But when it moved to the second half, the grip of the story was lost and it was very lagging. Writer Santhosh could have taken more care in preparing the screenplay. Another drawback of the film was it's length. The duration of the film was about 3 hours.

In short Annayum Rasoolum is just an average movie and it disappoints a lot.

Table No: 21

Direction   :  Aditya Datt
Writer       :  Aditya Datt
Starring    :  Paresh Rawal, Tena Desae, Rajeev Khandelwal

Vivaan (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Siya ( Tena Desae) are in Fiji to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Vivaan has been jobless for a while so this free trip comes us a blessing in disguise but mr khan (Paresh Rawal) awaits them there.

He lures them to play a game called table no 21. The game is simple. Answer eight questions. Each question is followed by a task. complete the tasks and win 21 crores. The one big rule is "if you lie you die". For people who enjoy reality t.v. this film is good fun since follows a similar template. The structure is fairly simple on the surface but there is larger picture running beyond it and every question and task leads the couple towards it.

Tena Desae brings in a freshness in the film. She looks delicious in a bikini and also carries off a bald look too. Rajeev Khandelwal is in the same zone as his first film. Someone new in his place would have been better. Same with Paresh Rawal. We have seen him do these kind of roles before so there is no novelty left to engage with him as an audience. Hanif Hilaal makes a silent debut and looks good enough to be cast as a villain in future films. How good is he? We will know only when we hear him speak. This is the 4th film by director Aditya Datt. After 3 mistakes he finally makes a good impression.
